FAQs

What is HostCamp?

HostCamp is a small, invitation-only event, created to spark ideas and facilitate connections between leaders throughout the WordPress hosting industry. It is a participant-driven event, with expert facilitators that will guide discussions towards our overall focus: advancing WordPress infrastructure.

HostCamp is entirely not-for-profit. All of our time as organizers is volunteered. Each of our facilitators is also volunteering their time. All funds received through sponsorship and ticket sales go to cover the raw costs of the event. If we have any funds left over they’ll go into savings for the next event.

What is HostCamp 1.0?

HostCamp 1.0 is the first edition of HostCamp, scheduled on June 19 2019, the day before WordCamp Europe. HostCamp will be in Berlin, just a few miles from the WordCamp Europe venue.

Is this event related to WordCamp Europe?

No and yes. We are an unofficial event and not a part of the WordCamp organization, beyond being participants and volunteers ourselves. We chose the time and location as a convenience to our guests, the majority of which are also attending WordCamp Europe.

What is an unconference?

We consider HostCamp an unconference because of its semi-formal structure. Instead of a strict structure, participants make each of the topics and discussions what they want them to be, asking questions, and contributing their own insights and perspective.

For more details regarding the unconference event format, read this article, and this one.

Where does HC 1.0 take place?
